Kwetu Qrochets

Kwetu Qrochets is a Kenyan brand that creates its products through the art of crocheting. The ideation process started when the client wanted a design inspired by the map of Africa. Kwetu Qrochets is a fragment of the whole, Taji Afrika. Kwetu Qrochets is a modification of the eastern fragment of the map of Africa. The notable elements as seen on the icon are the brand colours represented in patterns, threads, blank space and filled space. This was an exciting experience given the direction it took. Some of the challenges I encountered was replicating the crochet pattern while maintaining a minimalist approach as it is required for a logo.

Queer Circle

The task I had for this logo was not to make it cliche, as most queer organisations make use of rainbow colours. The idea was to make it unique, striking and bold. Initial inspiration was the circle from the brand title. The form logo was inspired by the flow as depicted on the yin-yang symbol. The individual circles represent the community.

CONCEPT GRAPHICS + TYPOGRAPHY

Ushairi Asili Poetry Festival

I worked with AI [ChatGPT] to come up with design briefs that I wanted to work on. It was quite an interesting approach and one of the case use of using AI for me as an artist. Treating AI as the client while I was the designer, I went ahead to work on the designs in Photoshop. Note* that ChatGPT was only used to generate the briefs, I did the designs. Brief: Design a series of posters for a poetry festival that showcases different poetic styles and genres. The posters should be visually appealing and capture the essence of each poetic style. Typography should be the main focus of the design, using different fonts and typographic elements to convey the mood and tone of each poem. Each poster should feature a prominent quote from a poem in the corresponding style, along with the name of the poet and the title of the poem.
